World War II Plus 55 Years
A very detailed look at day to day operations during World War II by David Lippman.
One of the regular visitors to the the USS GUNNEL site has assembled an unbelievable collection of submarine and submarine related photos. There are literally THOUSANDS of photos. Don sent me a copy of the two CD collection and I spend hours and hours (no exaggeration) looking through them and to tell the truth I just scratched the surface. The quality of the photos is second to none. You can check it out at Sub Pride.
Don was a Navy photographer and has spent 42 years either in the Navy taking photos or researching them at the National Archieves and other places. This collection has to be seen to be believed.
I don't believe in advertising on this site (that's why there is none). The purpose of this web site is to give you the reader an insight into what it meant to be an American submariner during World War II. Over the years this site has been up I've received many inquires from sailors asking where they could get photos of their boats. Until Don sent me his collection I couldn't offer any help other than to tell them to visit the National Archives - clearly this isn't an option for many people. What I am doing for Don is not advertising, this is a service to those men who over the years have lost the photos they had of their boats and want to find replacements.
Don is selling the collection but if all you need is a scan of your old boat drop him an e-mail and he'll send you one of your boat for free. Originally I thought he was selling individual scans but he told me he didn't want to rip off vets so he gives individual scans away for free.
For information on how to order the collection or to send Don an e-mail asking about a shot of a particular boat, Click here to send an e-mail to Don.
